Board

Jane King was educated in England, Scotland and the USA. She speaks Spanish, French and German.She spends her time running her small business, feeding healthy food to school kids,  and fundraising for Friends of Colombian Orphans. She is the mother of Nataly, who is her inspiration for the success of this nonprofit venture.






John King is a Board member and Treasurer. He is Professor of Undergraduate Legal Education at Concordia University-Texas. John also serves as President of Fundacion Juventud Colombiano en Riesgo "Youth at Risk", the Colombian non-profit that administers the training program in Bogota. John became involved with the homeless children who were not being adopted while he was adopting Nataly in 2006 .





Katharine Smith is studying for her master's degree of social work at the University of Michigan, with a specialty in mental health. The mother of two young children, she  worked for two decades as a newspaper journalist. She joined the board of FOCO this year, specializing in communications. Her goal is to help FOCO further its mission of helping young women lift themselves out of poverty by learning machine knitting.





Laritza M. Taft, MD, PhD is a physician born and raised in Colombia South America. In her native country she practiced medicine as a Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital de San Jose de Bogota and Universidad del Rosario. In 2000 Dr. Taft married and moved to the USA where she was granted a post doctoral fellowship  from the National Library of Medicine at the University of Utah, Department of Biomedical Informatics. Dr Taft earned her PhD, her dissertation focused on Knowledge Discovery Techniques for Adverse Events in Pregnancy and Delivery. Currently, Dr. Taft is a Staff Scientist at the Lister Hill Center for Biomedical Communications at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda Maryland. Dr. Taft is married to Gary N. Taft, MS, his focus is treatment and recovery of substance abuse patients.
